Joining Cesus Data to an ArcView Map

Step 1. Download TIGER/line data from the ESRI Website: www.esri.com --> search "Tigerline Data"

Step 2. Unzip the downloaded data into a  folder you have created for this data.

Step 3. Add all downloaded data to the map.

Step 4. Right click on tgr17000sf1grp to open the attribute table. Click on the STFID field to select it.

Step 5. Repeat for tgr 1767grp00

Step 6. Right click on trg17167grp00-->Joins and Relates-->Join

Step 7. The next screen should like like this:

Step 8. Right click on trg17167grp00-->properties

Step 9. For this step choose a value, but leave "nomalization blank". As you can see from this example if  the field "POP 2000" is normalized by "Females" the percentages are not correct. They are much lower than would be expected. This is because the total POP 2000 is for the entire State of Illinois, not just Sangmaon County.

Step 10. This is a finished map for the distribution of the white population in Sangamon County.
