About the Administrators' Academy

The Illinois Administrators' Academy is authorized by Section 2-3.53 of the School Code which states: The State Board of Education shall cause to be established an Illinois Administrators' Academy. The Academy shall develop programs which provide for development of skills in the areas of instructional staff development, school improvement, school accountability, effective communications skills, public school relations, evaluation of personnel, including documentation of employee performance and remediation of unsatisfactory employee performance.

Local school administrators who evaluate other certified staff must take a course on the Evaluation of Certified Staff (Section 2-3.56). This should be the first Administrators' Academy course taken by new administrators. Sangamon ROE-Staff Development offers this initial Academy course twice yearly, generally in early August and again in October. After completing the initial course, administrators must attend at least one Academy course every year.
For information on Administrators' Academy and its requirements or specific information on your individual Academy transcript, contact Barron Robinson, 217-585-8090.

See our current newsletter for upcoming workshops, or look on the Calendar Workshop link for current information on workshops. If you wish to register for a workshop, you can print out an Administrators' Academy Registration Form.

Educators' Certification System (ECS) for Administrators' Workshop/Training

The Regional Office of Education is offering a workshop for administrators on the Educators' Certification System (ECS) at the Staff Development Center. This ECS Administrators' Workshop will help participants to better understand recertification requirements and help participants to be more accurate and confident when entering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities into the system. This is an ideal workshop for new administrators and an excellent refresher workshop for seasoned administrators (especially those whose certificates are up for renewal this fiscal year). The two-hour training session offered by ROE 51 on ECS will cover the following areas:

  • Basic Knowledge of the System and Navigating ECS]
  • Certification Cycles/Period of Validity
  • Requirements & Failure to Meet Requirements
  • What Counts as Professional Development
  • Inputting Information
  • Saving Documentation
  • Certificate Registration Renewal Process -- Statement of Assurance (SOA)
  • New Cycle
  • Administrators' Audit
  • Academy Courses and Professional Development Workshops
  • Academy Course Evaluation Data Form

Keeping in mind the busy schedules of administrators, the following ECS Training for Administrators will be offered at the Staff Development Center (Computer Lab) on the following dates:

  • January 29, 2010(4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)
  • March 5, 2010 (4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)
  • April 30, 2010 (4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

The training is free of charge. If you are interested in signing up for one of the training dates, call Angie or Barron @ 585-8090. For the training it would be helpful if you know your "log-in/account I.D. and password". Also, please bring your professional development documentation or a list of professional development activities you have participated in.

This workshop will count as two hours of "continuing professional development". Participants will input this activity in their ECS professional development accounts before leaving this workshop.
